Beyond the Barcode

The brief for this project was to challenge and develop our knowledge and understanding of the fundamental essentials required to set up a business. We were required to create and develop an exclusive and relevant business idea. Our goal was to identify a gap in the market taking into consideration the environmental impact of the business i.e. a circular business model.

I decided the way I wanted to take this brief was through creating a welsh greeting card business. I saw a gap in the market as welsh cards are always rare to find especially on online platforms. I wanted to create cards using a new style that I haven’t seen on the market before. And also to create cards for all occasions in the Welsh language.

HIUT Denim

Our brief for this project was set by HUIT and they wanted us to work in groups to create an online content for Hiut Denim Co. The work that we produced should communicate ideas about Hiut’s core values rather than advertising their products. The second brief was to respond to the factory signage question.

Our take on these briefs as a group was to create a positive and effective piece of work that answers well to the brief. For our first brief, we created a piece of work out of cut out denim jeans and then place Hiut’s core values on the denim and also include icons to represent the core values. Our second outcome was imagery for social media and we used Fast fashion as our main resource. We created 2 social media posts each and all posts represented different factors of fast fashion.

Changing Faces

This Brief is for a project that will focus on using typography, image-making, conceptual development, and story-telling to develop and craft a piece of editorial design surrounding a particular topic. The focus for this project will be the interpretation and communication of information to a defined audience within contemporary editorial design practice.

The article I choose was “Migrant Risking Everything for a Better Life”. The reason why I picked this topic was that it has been such a big issue in the last few years. It is a very serious issue that many of us don’t understand. I wanted to create a piece of work that compares the way that we go from one country to another to how Migrants would.

Canolfan Abbey Road

Abbey Road Centre is a “mental health information and resource centre” based in 3 terraced and interlinked houses on Abbey Road in Bangor. They run a drop-in day service for adults who are working towards improving their mental health and offer activities as well as one-to-one sessions. Abbey Road Centre has asked us to re-brand the centre including Branding (logo), Wayfinding and Environment, Website Design, Promotion, Services, and Budgeting.

Me and my group wanted to re-brand Abbey Road Centre so it would show off their goals and morals. But it was important for us to update the designs they had. We created a slogan for the centre which was the ‘Three C’s, Courage, Creativity, Community. We as a group believed we achieved this well and the work we did was appropriate for the centre.

Make my own work is something I enjoy doing and also doing work for family and friends. I would like to do more freelance work similar to this in the next year so i can build up my experience.

On Display

The On Display brief is a branding project that has asked us to explore a specific theme. We were asked to form a ‘strong conceptual understanding of a political / culturally / social significant subject matter and to develop graphic language appropriate to our chosen theme’. With picking our theme we had to create the branding for a new exhibition including many different final outcomes.

I decided that the theme I was going to choose was etymology. This word made me instantly think about Welsh history and how things have changed drastically over the years. Welsh pride and culture has grown a lot in the last few decades and I believe some of the main disasters in wales has contributed to this. After Liverpool council took the village of Capel Celyn from Wales. When the danger of the colliery spoil tip above the village of Aberfan was ignored and ended up causing the death of 144 individuals. The Welsh have felt more protective and the meaning of the Country and its people has changed with history to have more love and passion for it.

Persuasion

We had to create a persuasive campaign for a client of our choice. My selected client, Children in Wales is an umbrella body for organisations who work to support children, families, and young people in Wales. One of their main priorities as a organisation is to fight for sustainable quality services for all children and young people. Ensure special attention and treatment for children in need and ensure children and young people have a voice.

My proposed solution for this project was to create a campaign that supported young carers (11-17) but also young people who might not know that what they do at home to support their families might be classed as young caring. And if so I wanted the campaign to help them recognise this and help them ask for help and receive the support that they deserved.
